First of all, I'd never believe anything ever said at an Aljazeera. They are less of a news organization, and more of a propaganda machine for the Muslim world. Note that their sources are "anonymously".
Second, I'm not saying anyone didn't lie. I'm saying that a peaceful convoy was attacked by an RPG, and one Marine was killed. The Marines quickly went on the offensive. You've got to be a stupid mother fucker to go head to head with forty Marines armed to the teeth. The person who shoot the RPG hid amoung the civilians, and the Marines went after him. If anyone busts down my door in a combat zone I'm running for my life, and when Marines are chasing a gunman who killed one of their own, well, they shoot first and ask questions later. When it's a matter of life and death, and the next breath you take might be your last, you don't stop, knock on the door, and ask kindly if any women or children are inside.
Again, I'm not saying anyone didn't lie. I'm sure that nearly everyone invovled lied, trying to cover it. All of these Marines are there fighting in a war they really didn't want to be a part of, and got caught up in a bad situation. The lied to cover their asses. In a matter of seconds they went from being honrorable Marines to have the blood of a dead platoon mate on their bodies, got caught up in a bad situation, and they are just trying to keep their ass out of the brig.
This isn't downtown Miami, where the police knock on your door to execute a search warrent. This is a combat zone, Marines trained to kill, and one of their buddies had just fallen.
