I'm not knocking conventions, I'm sure they are a great way to just relax and meet people in the biz. But in terms of profit, at least for those in my situation [2 years and still learning/expanding], the question posed by re profitability outweighs other considerations. As I've automated my business, I'm spending 60% of my time reading boards for trends/articles for tips and 40% actual production.

pimplink I think you hit on a very important factor into all of this. A lot of people simply cant afford to leave their computer for a few days or they will get behind. There are some of us who make this a fulltime living( like I do now) or those who do this to earm extra money on top of holding down a fulltime job. SOme people just cant spend the money to attend one of these things and then not make any money. With any convention have a plan and stick to it.This buisness is built on the relationships we make either online,on the phone,or in person. I can honetly say I remember the people I met offline will stick out more than those I chat with on ICQ ( no offense all my ICQ folks)
