man, you're right civ3 is too addictive, i've put the damn game aside
it took me 2 months, maybe a hour a day to complete it
i concured all the cities on the continent at the beginning and had luck to have iron working before all and had plenty of iron to build swordsmen etc
pure luck and some skills =)
otherwise it would be impossible, the AIs are advancing too fast
