Well, they just added a few more mods to their team so I'm hoping they did that for a reason and not just for shits and giggles.
I have been a volunteer moderator at a pretty large mainstream forum (not as many posts as GFY but no contests either

), the forum is the largest one in its industry. One of the thing about a growing community is how the rules have to evolve to accomodate its growth. There's a certain point in a community's growth where "anything goes" type of rule can become more of a burden then not and inhibit proper growth. This is probably the reason why luv$ has to bring up such threads and rightfully so.
My personal suggestions for GFY:
I think there should be a separate contest forum and is only visible to people who have XX posts and/or have been registered for XX weeks.
Newly registered members can only post in the 'Webmaster Q & Fuckin' A' forum for X weeks and/or have XX VALID posts (not bullshit one-liner posts)... frankly because spammers and people who would register just for contests aren't that patient.
(The above two suggestions can be done with vb features and/or simple mods.)
People selling shit should post in the 'Sell and Buy Forum' and not in the 'Fucking Around & Program Discussion' - I see this happening all the time. Either merge the two forums together or give it a reason why there is a separate forum to post shit you have for sale. I know the reason why they post it in the right forum, because this forum is more popular.
(this one will involve moderators actually moderating.)

If you're just "starting out" please know there are a TON of boards out there with much more helpful and friendlier people who WANT to show others how to make money in adult.

I don't think GFY is a bad resource for adult webmasters starting out. Being a webmaster is nothing new to me. However, I admit (hope I'm not lynched or stoned for saying this) that I'm a newbie adult webmaster; I've started out a few months back and I have learned a shitload of things from reading and searching and talking to people on ICQ from GFY that wasn't relevant at all to being a mainstream webmaster.
On the otherhand, I do consider GFY a bad resource for complete newbies that come in here to ask things like "what is ftp?" because I can only estimate 1 out of every 200 long-term GFY member will give the poor guy the answer he needs.
</rant> (not really finished with my thoughts but I ran out of time and gotta go... I'll be back.)
FYI, I remove my sig for all of my serious posts
