Basically it's more or less part of a mild form of hypnosis / cult style repetition of a few important themes. If you look at any religion, cult, brainwashed group, etc. they all follow the pattern of repeat the doctrine, do not accept any other doctrine as the truth, and try to convert people to your beliefs.
Just look at the daily prayers of Christianity or the Muslim faith, you do it everyday, you follow a fixed format, you're pumped with this information from a very early age. You say your prayers before bed, everyone knows that the subconscious mind is more willing to accept hypnotic suggestions before sleep, etc.
So, all that praise god stuff is just to re-enforce this notion that God is all powerful, and you're nothing, so you better not piss on his rules or go against his "teachings".
I'm not saying that God does or doesn't exist. Who knows? Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't, but I'm not wasting my life trying to figure that one out based on institutions created by man.
