if you are going in the direction of Pattaya, I strongly recommend going a bit further along the coast to Koh Chang island for a few days. Its very easy to get to and is beautiful. Additionally, there is a way to get into Cambodia if you continue a bit further and there is a fast ferry that will take you from the border to Sihkounville in Cambodia and its a 3 hour bus ride from there to the capital... Its really worth the effort if you are already going to be in Pattaya.
