It says "the United States gives each Israeli a direct subsidy worth about $500 per year" ... Not that each American pays them the equivalent of $500.

Actually No one did, but US gives money to a lot of Counties. Its way to control those countries policies. Its like, US doesn't like one counties policy, they will threat them with, we will give you no money. So by giving money to countries they sort of control it.
