Spend a little time reviewing how we spend $466 billion a year. Do you want to send soldiers to Israel? I don't. If you want to bellyache about spending money to protect our allies, start with allies like Germany and Japan who don't need it and receive a portion of the effect of that $466 billion which dwarfs the aid to Israel. Then look at South Korea. We have a very large part of our force sitting in Korea. This also dwarfs aid to Israel. Would you rather continue our current approach or put Korea on the Israel plan where they buy their own weapons with loans and use their own soldiers?
Which aid model do you like - the South Korea model where we put our troops in country with our weapons or the Israeli model where we give loans for weapons? I'd like to put the major powers like Europe, Japan and South Korea on the Israeli plan or dump them altogether. Rumsfeld is with me on this by the way. We're talking savings to the $466 billion which makes our aid to Israel look like a rounding error.
