Israel lunched a massive attack on Hezbollah which became to one of the most organized and power full terrorists organization in the middle east thanks to the fine support from Iran and Syria that supplied them with over then 60,000 missiles that can be fired on long or short distance.

Not that I agree with Hezbollah's actions, but they've stated that they captured these Israeli troops in order to begin bargaining with Israel for the release of hundreds of Arab prisoners, combatants and non-combatants alike, who are being held without trial.
They weren't expecting such a swift and harsh response because of the hard time Israel had occupying Lebanon in the 1980s. Unfortunately, (for Hezbollah, the Lebanese and anyone else who's become cannon fodder the last week over pointless fighting that's been going on anywhere between 30 and 5,000 years) Israel just got a new PM who can't afford to look weak and thus the endless cycle of violence continues.
