we are even lucky to be alive and to read and write about this, considering the Cuban Missile Crisis was literally one minute away from starting a thermonuclear war between the two superpowers. it was a fluke it didn't happen. ships almost ramming nuclear subs, you name it; it almost happened.
and many would have become burnt toast.
