I couldn't agree more with your statement

All of those french movies really rock (well, except for Alien 4 which is a disgrace to the first 2 movies of the serie), and I agree that most american movies suck as well... The difference is that when a french movie sucks, it means that you spend two hours watching some guy and some girl in a coffee shop talking about their dogs and the way they like coffee, if you know what I mean
When an american movie suck, you at least get some special effects and some eye candy... But overall, with the ammount of american production every year, you are bound to at least get one or two good movies a year, which cannot be said about french movies.
