Last night, in the middle of editing homemade porn for my adult website (remember this) I get an unsolicited call from The Women's Family Values Coalition (or some similar name).
She asks for the lady of the house and then launches into a pre-scripted set of loaded questions about how parents are limited in their ability to protect their children from the growing violence and sex portrayed in the entertainment industry and did I agree?
She pauses to prompt me to reply yes or no...
"No I don't. Parents today have multiple resources at their disposal to monitor what their children are exposed to."
Pause.
She launches into the next question: given that hollywood producers routinely reject scripts which revolve around the family values that most american families believe in, don't you think it would be nice if the movies families are watching actually reflect those values?
"No I disagree. It's not Hollywood's job to parent anybody. Hollywood producers make movies they know they can money on. If parents are paying for their children to watch violent films that's the problem"
Long pause.
"Uhhh ok you have a nice evening."
"You too"
I don't think they'll be calling back unless they want a real opinion instead of "yes" or "no" answers.
Or maybe I should just answer the phone, "House of Porn" from now on to head off these issues from the get-go
