Coincidentally, the few obese people I know seem to think they have this disease. Of course it couldn't be from the lack of exercise, over-eating, bad eating, and over drinking they do.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome..is what I think you have heard some of us mention. This also have insulin resistance connected to it. It isn't an excuse but it is part of the reason mostly because it has only just started to be diagnosed in the last decade or so and the insulin connection in even less of a time. So, people like me who piled on the pounds as puberty hit but have been trying very long to lose the weight just weren't dealing with it correctly. For years I have been dieting just not to gain weight let alone drop it.

I have lost about 30lbs this year and it is very hard. My doctor put me on Xenical which was a major personal decission for me but I reached a wall that I have not been able to break through since I was 16..at this same weight the weight loss would stop. My doctor seems to think it is the same weight at which the insulin issues and the PCOS kicked in. I am about two pounds under that weight now with the help of Xenical (which isn't nearly as bad as people told me it would be). Xenical still makes you work for it though. I am doing all the things I have been doing for a while now - gym every other day and long walks the other days and I do not eat over 40g a fat a day. I was nearly at that level before but with Xenical I pay through pain if I go over that amount. I have always had a diet with a lot of veggies, I never deep fry anything, I have used lean cuts of meat for years too and the weight didn't budge. Xenical is SLOWLY helping by not allowing my body to digest 30 percent of the fat I eat. That gives me less fat for my insulin issues to cause to be stored.

You can spot a lot of pcos women by where the fat is on their body. Most of us carry it around our middle rather than all over. That doesn't mean that every woman that carries weight like that is pcos but most pcos women are apples

Anyway, I don't blame anyone for me being overweight but it has just taken along time to understand that what works for everyone else with losing weight doesn't work for me. I wish it did or I was one of those people that could just stop eating junk and the weight falls off.

I don't smoke, I very rarely drink and I have never done drugs but I pay for those people. Of course with an NHS system I don't need health insurance but I work and pay my taxes into the system so I pay for the care of the smokers, drunks and druggies. So, if somebody is helping me with my weight issues then I don't feel bad about that.
