I'm a fan of comparative religious studies in general and also found buddhism pretty interesting. Gene recommended a good book that I picked up on the topic:
Being Nobody, Going Nowhere: Meditations on the Buddhist Path by Ayya Khema
I'd read others on the topic but found this one easier to digest as it wasn't so thick with the obscure terminology and concepts that is often found in other texts on the subject.
Another one I have read years ago that was pretty interesting was
Zen for Americans, and for short quick, interesting reading,
Zen Flesh, Zen Bones...
