My plan to fix the Iraq situation isvery simple so I really think it would work.
Simple is the way to go.
Basically we forget about what the "peaceful" people of Iraq want.
Because they are not the problem.
Lets deal with the fighters.
The key leaders of the fighting factions will meet to form a new government that includes fair representation for all sides. The current government(which has been useless) is disbanned.
We agree to withdraw US troops from Baghdad after they have formed a goverment. They will then have to secure Badhdad themselves.
Our troops then will be deployed in a 100% defensive operation to protect all oil reserves and guarantee fair distribution of oil. The force protecting the oil will be combined of US troops and a contingent of each faction at each site.
We then agree to make 7% of our countries oil purchases from Iraq for 5 years and strike a similar deal with our allies to purchase also.
The money goes to the new Iraqi government to rebuild the army and infrastructure.
After two years, our troops protecting the oil will be replaced with a UN force that includes no Americans.
The differrence in my plan from the plan the US started with is that my plan deals with the fighters rather than trying to empower a group of unknown (pro-western) leaders that nobody accepted.
The leaders in Iraq are the ones with the power and the power belongs to the fighting factions. We need to deal with the power because only they can stop the fighting so we can get out.
The Bush plan of disbanning the power of Iraq and ignoring the new emerging power is never going to work.
The US backed government of Iraq has become irrelevant because they do not control even one inch on the ground and the Iraqis signing up to join them are only there for a paycheck and will switch loyalty to whatever side is providing the paycheck. The Iraqi security forces are thoroughly infiltrated by the enemy(who are not there for a paycheck) and will never be effective until the enemy becomes a partner.
