i do suggest wearing your seatbelt cause if you get in an accident the car will record your spend, and if your belt was on. pretty much all mid to high end cars do that now. just in case you try to sue the car company

the door option is an option, but im pretty sure that the seatbelt warning is mandatory. also on most cars now they use the belt catch to tell if someone is in the seat. obviously if the car is moving there is someone in the driver seat, but the air bags react differently if they are or are not wearing their seat belt. they also use the passenger seat belt catch to tell if someone is there to arm the passenger air bag too.
