One way for these guys : the BASEBALL bat ... Bring a witness, get the witness to state that it was in self-defense ( you were just back from a friendly game ), get convicted of mischief, pay 200.00 fine ... and keep great memories.

If I was owed money, and since I am 5 minutes away, and since I am also looking to fix the clock of someone for the past few weeks, I would hop over there ...
