IDN are Internationalized Domain Names. They were created to satisfy the needs of ever growing foreign markets whoms language contains characters of non latin origin, such as chinese, japanese, korean, german, turkish, etc, etc.. IDN have been steadily on the rise, both in demand, use & sales.

Certainly something like sos.com as an idn is completely generic & has no potential in reaching value like a 3 char .com, however, IDN of single word or premium search terms ARE extremely valuable if you're doing business to an international market. Chinese, & Japanese IDN for single words such as cars, hotels, etc, have made astronomical dollar amounts when resold.

IDN requires I-Nav plugin from Verisign, which help development of the IDN. Currently, Firefox, & certain versions of IE7 already support IDN. IDN work by taking punycode which is the xn-ss-ora.com like strings you seee, & then mapping them to their native characters in the browser windows, etc.. these native characters are things such as accented latin characters, japanese kanji, chinese language characters, sanskrit, various mathematical symbols, etc, etc.... Also, keep in mind that these foreign countries that utilize the IDN have keyboards & software enabling them to type the native character..
Whereas you & I in the US must hold alt & type 129 to get the character ü , someone in turkey, or germany is capable of typing the character directly from their keyboard. Same goes for any IDN.,, certainly you & I are unable to type the japanese characters directly, so, the punycode is used.. the xn-bb-fgh.com looking domains are actually the punycode, & the domain is what you see..

example.. see below, my own IDN

http://www.bööbs.com Which is the puny code http://xn--bbs-snaa.com/ .. however, what you see in the status bar when you mouse over it is http://www.bööbs.com, not the punycode.. when you click it.. you get http://www.bööbs.com in the address bar, not the punycode.. their is no code on any page to do any of this,, it is IDN mapping to native characters.. Now.. when a visitor is using a browser not capable of mapping, the visitor will see a verisign page giving the visitor the option of downloading I-Nav plugin which will enable their browser for IDN mapping, or the visitor can continue on the the site/domain without downloading & will see the non mapped results. My own example here would show bbs.com because the öö will not be mapped..

http://www.püssy.com
http://www.fück.com

anyway.. I'm looking for link trades for these IDN

any questions?
