Very true. Spammers don't just use "valid" email addresses they buy/spider/whatever. Like a password cracker, they'll use dictionary files (words, names, places, domains without the tld, anything that could yeild a hit).
I've created new email accounts and have received spam within no time without ever having used the damn account.
