I lived in California for 16 years. California has lots of greats things but an equal number of negative things about living out there. I decided to move after our house got nailed by the Northridge quake in '94. After that event, I said to my wife fuck this we're moving.
Looked in that magazine Unique Homes and I saw a bunch of properties in Boca Raton that reminded me of the LA lifestyle and look. Flew down for a few days to check it out down here and fell in love with the place instantly.
I've been all over the US and I think Florida has one of the finest lifestyles available. I love warm weather having grown up in Philly and all that cold and snow bs every year as a kid. Florida is year round perfect climate. It gets a tad humid in the summer but by the end of a season or two you get used to it. It gets San Francicso chilly in the fall at nights so you get just enough cold to remind you of season changes. You have gorgeous beaches and the ocean at your doorstep.
If you like boating, golfing, site seeing, and other outdoor activities Florida has it all for leisure activities and the Bahamas are a quick hop away too for more fun in the sun and gambling.
The people here are great. Way more friendly then in LA. And here you get to know people much faster and easier. I've never had so many friends as I do since coming here. You do have a lot of retirees, but you get used to them too. Its gotten younger here and a lot of high tech companies have ops down here. During the season you get the snowbirds, and it gets just a bit more crowded, but its not as bad as LA and those kind of crowds everywhere and traffic.
Great restaurants, on the level of NYC and LA and some say better because of the variety. Shopping is fantastic. Great malls.
Prices down here are very reasonable also. Real Estate is pricey but you get a lot more value than in LA for sure.
To give you an idea a million dollar estate here would cost at least twice to three times that in LA. And the properties here you don't have to worry about quakes.
A lot of people say what about hurricanes. We'll I've been here 8 years and only in 2 of those did we get any significant storms that I would consider rough and even they weren't that bad. Just lots of heavy winds and water. The only hurricanes that really hit Palm Beach County and did damage were in the '20's and back then building codes were way different. Today everything here is built with wind force storms in mind.
Crime is high like any major metro area. But I haven't had any bad experiences at all yet. In LA had them all the time.
A lot of adult biz is down here too. As are many of the biggest players in the biz.
The girls here are phenomenal looking. Babes everywhere you go. And friendlier too.
On a 1 to 10 I give this place a 9.75. Its not perfect perfect, but its as close to perfect compared to anywhere else I've seen. I highly recommend you try it out.
