I left Russia at a very early age, spent most of my life in Sunny Florida. But I guess every now and then I look back. I hear things are way better over there compared to the early 1990s (when I was there).

I remember my mother having to stand in line for 6 hours to get a bag of potatoes, nowadays they have supermarkets n shit.

So is it Putin? or is it just the new system?
Early 90's was a Wild West in all ex-Soviet republics. All that government properly ended up finding its way to whoever had the most connections and the most guns. Borders opened, export by small businesses flourished, but those also had a lot of criminal activity associated with them. I know it was bad in Ukraine because I was there at the time and my family was involuntarily involved with some of it. Ended up leaving around 1998, when it started stabilizing.

It's MUCH better and safer now.
