I'm getting tired of this line. 9/11 had nothing to do with us being in Iraq. For some of you who have shorter memory than me, Iraq attacked Kuwait. And they weren't exactly nice about it.
Iraq attacked Kuwait because after ten years of war with Iran and millions of deaths, the only thing that changed was the fact that Iraq, with all of it's oil money, was hopelessly in debt - To both Kuwait and Saudia Arabia. It was easier (and cheaper) for Iraq to invade Kuwait. Kuwait was and still is an ally of the US, and another ally was threatened by Iraq's actions.
Was oil involved? You bet your ass it was. Iraq was on the verge of controling a rather large percentage of oil that the US needs in order to survive.
Does anyone remember what Iraq did in Kuwait? Of course not. They pretty much murdered anyone of military age, raped it's women, took control of all Kuwait's oil, and otherwise looted the entire country? The US and other forces came in and totally kicked their asses. Remember the line of fancy cars loaded with VCRs and other electronics fleeing Kuwait into Iraq? That's war booty that Iraq was taking home.
Of course all of this doesn't take into account the destruction of 600 oil wells.
So after ten years of war with Iran, millions of deaths, billions of dollars in debt, Saddam was left in power to murder his own countrymen - over one hundred thousand of them.
After Kuwait certain restrictions were put into place. And Saddam felt he had the right to violate every one of these restrictions - every last one of them. Not to mention he felt it was perfectly okay for his forces to take pot shots at US planes. GAME OVER RIGHT HERE. I'm not sure what planet you live on, BUT FIRING AT A US WAR PLANE IS AN ACT OF WAR. PERIOD.
So what has Saddam accomplished? He killed millions of people. He invaded Kuwait because he owed them money. Then after getting his ass kicked - really badly - he proclaimed himself the winner and gassed the Kurds by the thousands - his own countrymen. Then Saddam had no problem violating every restriction of the terms of surrender.
The people of Iraq have no honor what so ever. They started a war against Iran, lost it, went billions into debt because of it, invaded a much smaller country to loot it, got their asses kicked, failed to honor the terms of surrender, and when the US came calling a second time the entire Iraqi armed forces HID LIKE COWARDS.
If this wasn't enough, it's leader hid in a hole in the ground!
If anyone deserved to die it was Saddam.
