Personally I would have dished out a few headbutts to those hanging me, why go quietly? it's the last thing you'll ever do. Death penalty = revenge
I think revenge and justice are mutually exclusive. Spending 10 to 20 years in a tiny cell with the knowledge you'll never get out has got to be the worst punishment on offer.
