If you want my analysis, which would be a Politicial analysis, not a Military one, it is this:
Top Generals are telling Bush putting more troops in Iraq is not the correct thing to do.
Democrats just took over Congress, and announced that they have a plan to get troops out of Iraq.
Bush wants to add more troops.
Therefore, in order to make it so he can add more troops, he is replacing those who might favor the Democrats' plan, so he can have what are referred to as "Yes Men", so he has more leverage for his plan to add more troops.

Ever give any thought to what would happen if we just "left?" I didn't think so.
See, what you forget, is that the head of the US Army told him he needed more troops long ago. He didn't want to do it. Now, he is seeing that maybe they were right.
This war sucks. Jr did not know how to kick ass. Now the people there are fucked, and we are fucked . . . but just leaving is not the way to do it. At least, that is what he is probably being told.
