Our culture has a wacky way of dealing with peds. Probably a lot of the kids who get killed are killed by peds fearing discovery.

I don't know if I have the answer, but the way we do it certainly isn't the answer. The peds molest the kids, and when the peds are done, our guilt- and shame-oriented culture does the rest. The kids get harmed twice.

Instead of inculcating into the victims the idea that what happened was some sort of mind-bendingly bad thing, we should help them shrug it off with "Sorry that happened, but it's no big deal."

I studied pedophilia quite a bit when I was dating a woman who had been molested (or claimed as much), so I read up on it.

One of the biggest sources of guilt for the kids is that frequently, the kids are not passive victims. They discover that, hey, sex feels good. (I'm not talking about infants here, obviously, but the kids who are a bit older and are capable of a purely physical response.) When the abuse get discovered, they suddenly hear that all this stuff that was happening was HORRIBLY BAD, and when they reflect on the fact that it felt okay to them, they get this feeling of being dispossessed and evil and full of shame.

We need to tell them that what they were doing wasn't wrong, it just wasn't time for it yet, that sex is for older people, not kids, and that what happened happened to them not because of them and that eventually they'll have a good sex life, but that sex is not a healthy thing to do at their stage of life. And that is why the molester was bad, but you (the child) were not bad.

Unfortunately, after molestation is discovered, there's such a climate of hysteria surrounding the abuse that the kid gets traumatized a second time.
