I have a problem with that right off the bat. The purpose of using blog software for your website is that you want to run a blog and search engines love blogs. In order to get rankings in the search engines you have to either get SE trust or write something of the upmost quality that people all over the world will want to link to you. Or atleast a few 100 people over a short time.

The Domain is everything now to accomplish this. And if someone thinks they're going to put a blog together with some subdomains and get some links to them and they're going to take off is rediculous. It just doesn't happen that way and if you're going to teach someone else how to do something then atleast get the correct info.
