So lets look at this way, why cant there be smoking pubs and non smoking pubs, why does it have to be all or nothing? Why cant the other 1/2 of people enjoy what they want to do?

Crowd isn't really split like that... in every group you have smokers and non-smokers. They're trying to make it easier for smokers to quit (almost all of the smokers i know want to quit, but can't because they're addicted and being in a smoking environment like a pub makes it that much harder.)
If someone really wants to smoke, go outside... is it really that much trouble? If it is then you have other problems to look into, just because tobacco is legal doesn't mean you're not addicted and abusing a substance.
