I don't know where you and RawAlex are getting your info from.

Everything I've read says the satellite was struck by a missile traveling at hundreds or thousands of miles an hour.

It wasn't a gentle docking where they hit the "off" button. You are giving the Chinese way too much credit. Go to Heaven's Above or Spacetrack and look at the pieces they are tracking..and that's just the biggest chunks..even 1mm pieces can likely damage other satellites.

But if you guys don't want to call it an "explosion" or "shooting it down" or "blowing it up", what shall we call it? How about a very nasty booboo?

The US did it in the eighties but I doubt very much they would do it now when there are hundreds more satellites in orbit that could possibly be affected by the debris.
