I have a good buddy that was a commercial fisherman in Alaska for many years, and he used to send me boxes of Alaskan King Crab, and Salmon.
The king crab is the best, with legs that were so big I could push my finger thru the narrowest end to get the meat out.
But yes, fishing up there is quite hazardous. If you fall in the water there you had better hope someone gets you out very quickly as hypothermia sets in very fast in those waters
The pay can be very, very good. Halibut season lasts for a day or two, but there have been catches where every hand on board made a couple hundred grand.
Commercial fishing in Alaska ranks in danger right up there with working the graveyard shift at 7-11 or as a taxi driver, just better pay.
