I think companies in this industry need to start publishing Privacy Policies.

I've had privacy policies on all of my sites since I started in this industry (probably out of habit as the last industry I was in was information security and data integrity related). I do this on my affiliate site, paysites, on my discussion board, anywhere that people submit information to me.

I do, however, notice a HUGE lacking of such published privacy policies on most other sites in this industry. They're actually incredibly common place in mainstream, not sure why adult hasn't adopted them as much.

If your site is going to collect information from people, I think it completely reasonable that you should be expected to publish a statement telling people where and how that information will be used, and for what purpose.

I think having such statements does several things:

1. It makes it clear to the end-user exactly what the consequences of providing your company with their personal information may be.

2. It provides legal protections for both your company, and your clients.

3. It provides a clear statement of understanding for your employees to follow.

I think if CCBill had such a privacy policy in place for the phoenix forum, that employees of the company never would have even considered this deal with AdultWhosWho in the first place.

I would encourage the "players" in the industry to take lead, talk to your attorneys and get a privacy policy published, and help to make something positive come from this experience.

I think this is one of the next logical steps down the road of making the adult industry more in line with our mainstream counterparts, and continue down the path of corporate responsibility.
