My review on American Cannibal and KB.

I met a non-industry friend of mine (and his friends) at the Beverly Hills Fine Arts Theatre at about 8pm. He, as are his friends, are movie buffs. They can pull movie quotes from their pockets for about any occasion. They are also local filmmakers that enter all kinds of film festivals, so they really jumped at the opportunity to attend the movie.

I am a movie snob. I am very particular about movies that I see. I can?t stand action movies less plotlines. I find most comedies to be hideous attempts at old slapstick style formats or rip-offs of the 80s.

We began talking about recent movies. I told them I hadn?t seen a good movie in a long time. I told them that movies like Little Miss Sunshine only seem good to people because recently, there hasn?t been much too choose from. While they didn?t agree completely, they saw my point.

I have to say that American Cannibal did not only surprise me, but I was actually impressed. The movie is fantastic. I honestly laughed a few times in that movie so hard that I had tears in my eyes. It is a total shame that a movie such as this isn?t in more theatres because comparatively: this is much better stuff.

The movie is original, very witty, and extremely funny and has a very well thought out and unique twist. I know a lot of people don?t like KB. But he is great in this. He really isn?t trying too hard in the slightest; in fact, he is self-deprecating.

He really nailed it in this. My friends laughed throughout the movie and they have never met KB, nor have they ever been to an industry function.

Whatever KB?s reputation is. Whatever his former job history is. Whatever his successes and failures are. That all went out the window last night as far as I am concerned because last night, he was really great. It was refreshing to see someone (something) really put together a unique, passionate project. Even if I hadn?t liked the movie (which I obviously did) I still would have respected the fact that it tried to be original.

I haven?t always been a KB supporter. I haven?t always thought his ?marketing? was an effective way of doing things. I haven?t always agreed with things he has said. But I have to call this one like I see it. Even if the movie never makes a dime, he accomplished something in my book.

Congrats KB, I hope more people get out and see this. Because it is very worth it. You probably have one of the better movies in theatres today, I hope people take a chance on yours.
