Yes there is a difference, but it seems the only thing Record Company Execs want to promote heavily is the negative crap, and I think the artist that participate in this minstrel show are doing the industry and the culture as a whole a dis service, not to mention...they are selling themselves out for quick cash, and it's disgusting.
(yeah, I said minstrel show!)

your right mate and i personally agree with you that its fucking disgusting, but their is nothing that i or you can do about it. but to me it just means that you need to be more dilligant and just pic the wheat from the chaff. i mean the vast majority of the hip hop i listen to nowadays is old anyway, i mean today i listened to dre's chronic snoops doggystyle, and wutang forever, yesterday i spent most of the day listening to arrested development.
But i agree as an avid hhip hop fanm it does make me a little ashamed when i listen to alot of the rap that comes out now, not because they are all gangsta wannabes, but because they are not actually trying to get any sort of message out their, i mean in the days of NWA Tupac, Public Enenmy their gangsta rap was about educating the masses on what goes on in the ghetto, today with acts like T.I, 50 Cent G-unit, its more about making fast cash quick, and that is what makes me sick. but to me it just means that i have to spend a little more time seperating the wheat from the chaff
