Because it's more liberal now and less stigma. Plus there's the internet where people can give reviews/tips regarding whore mongering and such so wouldn't that make it easier to whore....
So shouldn't it be higher? Even if the 69 % statistic was inaccurate, wouldn't today's rate be higher?
It's true that there's more casual sex available to men then 59 years ago but I don't think that by itself would drive the percentage down... ? I'm thinking because a lot of married men cheat they prefer hookers because it's quicker, more convenient, with a lesser chance of getting caught?

Maybe the hookers were better looking back then? Now an attractive woman with compromised morals has a lot of other avenues such as nude modeling for internet sites. The only ones that end up being hookers are the nasty crack whores that can't make it anywhere other than the street corner.
