Murders per capita is not the issue HeadPimp. These are not necessarily firearm offenses. Colombia has it's own different set of problems - ironically the source for a substantial number of firearm-related murders in Columbia happen to be mainly due to the US desire to snort powder in volume.
Firearms offenses in the US (not necessarily murders) are far beyond all western countries combined. Even nextdoor in Canada the murder rate by firearm is less than one fifth of the US. It's hardly a debate as to whether this is a problem - the US has had more "college incidents" in the last few decades than any country (forgetting the deaths which don't reach CNN headlines).
Bottom line - guns in the US are a major problem both to LE and the public - it has the highest ranking of gun offenses on the planet and much of these weapons are in the hands of the public - and the public, as in any country - are idiots.
