Hardware Advice
My day job is at a University, I work in a Chemistry lab. I'm a physical chemist, do a lot of ESR and Matrix Isolation work.
But recently, have been doing a lot of modeling and computational stuff with Gaussian. Decided to purchase 2 computers for modeling, and I have a few questions, I'm not that up on the new hardware. So basically I am looking for a PC setup with pure mathematical computation power.
I am looking at a P4 2.5 W/Rambus. All the calculations I do end up getting done in RAM, so I figure rambus is worth the extra.
But - it seems the FSB on the 2.5 processor is only 533MHz. If this is the highest bus speed you can get, what advantage do I have to purchasing the 1066MHz rambus over the 800MHz? It seems the processor will always be the bottleneck for these computations, so do I really gain anything with the 1066?
Any other suggestions?
