If you make a bet and lose, you should pay up, and not come up with lame excuses such as he lacks respect for you - if you welched on a bet with me, I would lose respect for you too.
That said, I don't know the details of your bet nor do I care to examine it. I was just somewhat taken aback by your "either way" comment.
