Paul... maybe you should add the word "branding" to your vocabulary.
Most newbies will splatter galleries and banners all over the web, make one or two sales every 6 months. They leave and the ads, banners, galleries and traffic still exist in web archives and abandoned free hosting accounts.
All it costs the sponsor is $80 every 6 months or so... or maybe not? Considering the minimum payout is $100 the sponsor just got his site name viewed by many many people for free... many times over.
