I dunno, I'd still say they are a status symbol.. You can't tell me some rich soccer mom couldn't do just as well with a mini-van as she could with a $60k (or more, dunno) Mercedes SUV.. That's status symbol, as pure as it gets.
Same as the wannabe pimps with their Escalades.. Status symbol.
Anyway, no point arguing about it. The sheeple will continue to buy SUVs for years until the fad fades out, or the terrorists get more successful in blowing them up. ;>
