I think you are 100% accurate on that
These kinda "crooks" are in short supply now - the current mob would piss their frilly panties when shit hits the fan and usually totally untrustworthy - no "code of honor" - they'd mug old ladies to grab a dime.
They were definitely an "odd bunch" and had some very weird family lives
One was married to a lady who was the director of a very well-known international organization. With him as a crook and her representing the higher echelons of international commerce - they sure were an oddly matched couple
But.. seemed happy enough
