Sappy post here..
At the age of 19 years and 4 months (a very good long life) my oldest cat died in my arms this morning. I knew it was coming and that I was faced today with the decision to end her battle with father time, but being the brave soul that she is, she made sure I didn't have to make that decision. She'd lived with partial kidney failure for many years, made it through a major liver disease about 4 years ago, but this week developed pulmonary adema and didn't respond well to medication to relieve it. In the midst of it all she had a major seizure yesterday that she didn't come out of very well. We thought it best to check some bloodwork and give her 12 to 20 hours to revive from the seizure.
As others have said, it's like losing a kid. Heck.. she's older than my oldest kid. Two of my other kitties are 13 and 15. We've battled health problems for all 3 the past 4 months, including liver problems, a feeding tube and exploratory surgery for the real persian kitty, Smokey, who turned around for the better just this week. I'm so glad I'm in a position to give them any care that they need.
So everyone hug your animal babies extra when you get to. There's a new kitty angel to watch over them all.
Peaceful slumber Princess
