Aaron Sorkin can write, he intelligently conveys hot button political issues in all his shows because of the massive success of the west wing no one gives his follow up shows time to grow into their audiences

you would think at least one of the executives at NBC would remember that the west wing did start as a rating monster either, it grew to the success it had.
