I do not know what kind of agreements UK has with the US about this type of things, get your lawyer to check them out while he is writing them a letter. But first call them at their house and just be frank about what you will do if the money is not paid. My guess is that the lawyer will also suggest a collection agency since that is the cheapest way to obtain money that is owed you.
