Ooh, the wonderful "local loop" charge.. that cost will depend on the distance from you and your local pop. Also be aware that if you go outside your local baby bell for such service that local loop charge could be considerable. They use it as an anti-incentive if you will, a penalty for using somebody else's net services. The bells usually own the lines and are the ones that control when you get an install (Cause it's their lines). I think the local loop here was 378.00 a month, the 1st Isp we had drop a T1 in fucked me without lubrication, it was like 1500 a month plus local loop plus a bunch of other fees that nobody tells you about that make little sense like "1 time access to blah blah blah" charges.. it goes on and on. Then the Isp usually wants 2 months up front plus a setup at 500-1500 bucks, plus the router, another 1500 bucks for something decent.. all of a sudden you're looking at 5k just to get a stupid t1 installed. Anyway.. if you can't beat em join em .. Bellsouth offered t1 service at 900 bucks a month per month, no setup charge and Cisco router that'l accept 4 t1 cards free.. been with them ever since, saving a lot of money and getting great service with everything on 1 bill.. and no local loop charge. ;-)
Good luck, be sure to try to get a handle on *every* charge they'll hit you with.. cause nobody will tell you the whole truth until you've bought the thing and start getting funky billing.
