Defamation is nothing new in the law; the concept has been around in various forms for centuries. Defamation includes both libel, which involves the publishing of false words, and slander, which applies to speech.

Although the exact components of defamation vary according to the laws of different states, a plaintiff must generally show a false statement was published to a third party, causing damage to the plaintiff's reputation or tending to dissuade others from dealing with that person. It doesn't matter exactly which forum the speaker chooses, so any nook of the Internet where a third party can read the statements is good enough.

Moreover, some states consider certain statements to be "defamation per se," which means plaintiffs don't have to prove they actually suffered damage. For example, saying someone is guilty of a crime or incompetent in his or her profession may be assumed by the court to damage that person's reputation.

*************** has been under libelous attack and has now begun the fight for correction of these civil offenses. *************** gets valuable and reliable type-in traffic and has for years. All serious buyers have been given free and total access to traffic and income stats that are maintained by Traffic Club (a trusted third party).

There have been those who have accused me of being a "scammer" and a "liar" regarding the traffic and income statistics for ***************. Although a court of law is the last resort, it is now necessary in this situation to halt the libelous attacks against me and my domain name *************** by requesting help from a court of law. It is also now necessary to punish those who have/ and continue to libel me. Finally, this law suit will hopefully also signal others how serious libel and defamation is on the World Wide Web.

Be very careful when posting online. It is easy to go from normal flaming to "libel" in no time. And if you feel as though you might have posted something defamatory, you should request that it be removed from the message board as soon as possible. That action alone could help avoid a libel suit against you.
