Don't doubt depression plays a prominent role Paul - all kinds of events/incidents can trigger the depression.
Sometimes, least from what I've seen, it can be hard to identify depression as it was in most of the suicide examples above. The girl in the example appeared cheerful and bubbly, but in a quiet moment, elected to overdose. The 50 year old was hard as nails and appeared jovial on the day, but calmly drove 50 miles after work, booked into a decent hotel and killed himself. It's hard to predict what people may do
