With a makeup artist and a good wardrobe you can. I mean, "Gothic" is not a different species... It is all makeup, wardrobe and attitude.

And I'm not talking... finding that "perfect" model... Every photographer usually has a couple girls that would be great "goths" with the right makeup and wardrobe... but, the photographers don't understand what it is to be "gothic" so, how can they shoot it?

They are all used to slapping a latex/vinyl catsuit on the model with some black eyeliner, and calling it the token "gothic set" to add to their collection.
Part of the position I am coming from is clouded by my personal standards. I simply *hate* faking anything for my photos. I don't mind creating and embellishing, but taking a non-goth girl, making her up, and pretending-- it doesn't feel right to me.

I do see that it can be done. However, I think people can detect it. The gothic look is both varied and pervasive. The personal creativity that many goths, especially the ones you'd want to look at, put into their look is obvious. Plus, there are some things you can't do with make-up... not many models will shave parts of their head, their eyebrows, get facial piercings, and some of the other things that genuine goths put into their own looks.
