Sounds like you may have overworked your serratus, possibly resulting in a minor tear. I've seen it happen to more than one person (over)doing that same exercise for the first time in a pool; for many people it's one of those underdeveloped muscle groups (like the stabilizer muscles) that are normally rarely used in day-to-day life. Give it a couple of weeks with light duty and you should be fine. Good news though, when the muscle heals it will be stronger than before.
