"A public opinion poll from the American Research Group recently reported that more than four in ten Americans ? 45% ? favor impeachment hearings for President Bush and more than half ? 54% ? favored impeachment for Vice President Cheney."
I saw an interesting Bill Moyer Journal last night with a couple of constitutional scholars advocating the filing of articles of impeachment against George Bush and Dick Cheney. They felt that the Executive Branch has gone too far and has placed itself above the law with its unauthorized wiretaps on American citizens, secret prisons, Gitmo, torture authorizations, manipulation of intelligence to start a war, political litmus test for appointments to government positions, etc.......
They felt that if we do nothing, the next elected President will not relinquish the power and we will be on the path to a different kind of government that our Founding Fathers anticipated, feared and, therefore, provided for impeachment as a means to stop an out of control executive branch.
Where are today's statesmen? I see too much vested interest in maintaining the status quo as they all salivate over the possible outcome of the next election.
