Amazing.

Let's look at the facts here: this guy took a massively lethal dose of a controlled substance to impress strangers (I believe) in an IRC chat room. This was clearly not his first envounter with drugs. This is not a case of someone going to party and being pressured into taking something he doesn't understand.

If you jump in front of enough buses, eventually you will get run over. That's just the way it is. The earlier Russian Roulette comparison is right on. Yes he DID commit suicide. You spin that chamber enough times and you're going to catch the bullet.

I keep seeing the word "genius". Based on what? I didn't know Ripper, but I think I would have heard of him if he had cured cancer or invented a new kind of fuel. How is he a genius? If you look at what people here are saying, it's basically "he's a genius who didn't know what he was doing". Huh?

The whole "he was just a kid" thing is played out, too. It seems like I can't turn on the TV without hearing some idiot lawyer telling us how his 19-year-old client, who just beat an old woman to death for her change purse, is "just a kid" and "didn't know what he was doing". Whather you want to face it or not, 21 years of age is plenty old enough to understand the consequences of your actions. He was NOT a kid, he was a grown man; old enough to drink, drive, vote and die for his country. When do you become responsible for your own actions? 22? 25? 60? He was old enough to know better.

Is it sad when a young man loses his life (in a very avoidable and stupid way, I might add)? Of course it is, but this is not a case of some little kid on his way to pick up a quart of milk getting gunned down in gang war crossfire. This is a man who stuffed dangerous chemicals into his body until his body GAVE UP. He did it to himself.

"This is terrible for the family." Yeah? Where were they when he was still breathing? Obviously, there was something wrong with this guy before the night all this stuff happened. Why was he so desperate for attention and affection? Why was he so alone?

I think people need to learn to distinguish between a "tragedy" and "an avoidable death someone brought on themselves".
