I doubt this decision had anything to do with money. My guess is that he was just tired of dealing with crazy ass Steinbrenner. I know I couldn't work for that guy very long.
Probably wouldn't make it a year without murder/suicide crossing my mind. Fuck Steinbrenner.
I say, good for Torre. He'll love his life much more once he's away from the madness of the Yankees.
